Why Firefox?

As I had abandaoned IE(Internet Explorer) for some time, I had never want to know a thing about IE. Why? Because Firefox is really a great browser. What so great? Let me tell you all more.

For those who don't know what is all this Firefox about, basically Firefox is a free open-source web browser by Mozilla Corporation. I had been using Firefox for nearly a year & until now, I'm very happy with the browser performance.

So, lets compare IE & Firefox.

Security

An independent study shows that, in 2006, IE users were vulnerable to online threats 78% of the time. Firefox users? Only 2%. To make it simple, exploit code for critical unpatched security vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer was available for 284 days in 2006. In comparison, exploit code for critical security vulnerabilities in Firefox was available for 9 days before Mozilla shipped a patch to remedy the problem. As of April 23, 2009, Firefox 3 has no security vulnerabilities unpatched according to Secunia. Internet Explorer 7 has nine security vulnerabilities unpatched, the most severe of which was rated "moderately critical" by Secunia.

Not only so, because IE is so incorporated into Windows, it make things more worse or easier if any attack or installation of anything into your computer occur.

Web Browsing
It loads a page much faster than IE. Its handling of multiple images and videos on webpages is better than IE too. There are certain parameters called 'Table rendering time' and 'CSS rendering Time' that play a big role in loading of a page and these timings are lesser for Firefox as compared to IE.

The most important is IE don't work well or function properly on every website. One of those web is my blog. When I use IE to open my blog, it just stop while my Firefox doesn't give me any problem.

Memory Space
Firefox take lesser memory space compared to IE.

Additional add-on
Firefox can install a lot of add-on which can make your browsing smoother while IE has limited.

Verdict
The most important thing that make me choose Firefox is its stability & security. Firefox hang less & even it did hang or crash, it won't make your system to go crashing or hang. It will just restart back normally.

As for security, I'm totally in peace of mind as Firefox really did very well by updating any flaws they found nearly immediately. Until now, those people who has been strike by malware & spyware, most of them are IE user as IE is an easy target for all these junks. Besides that, it blocks nearly all the annoying pop-up ads, making my net surfing journey near perfect.

As conclusion, Firefox beat the hell out of IE. IE sucks but I have to use it when some stupid government website can only function under IE. Sien.

ps: I will try to post about the comparison between browser in my next post.
